ANDERSON Rita Marie

Born 11 Apr 1917 in Washington, to John L and Julia J (WITOSCH) ANDERSON. Married Byron WEED of Cd'A. Died 2 June 1951 in Alameda County, California. Buried in St Thomas cemetery.
In 1899, John L ANDERSON, born April 1874, emigrated to the US from his native Norway.
In 1900, John was a coal miner in Sand Coulee, Cascade County, Montana. He did not speak English. His future wife, Julia WITSCH, 18, b 27 Sep 1881 in Germany, was a servant to the family of August and Mary POLINSKI, 928 Water St, Eau Claire WI. Julia immigrated in 1883, and lived in USA for 17 years.
On 1 Jun 1905, Julia WITOSCH, age 22, was a laundress for the Gus BIDNARK family in Eau Claire WI.
On 26 May 1909, John ANDERSON married Julia J WITOSCH, in Boise ID.
On 16 Apr 1910, the family rented 826 Fifth St, Cd'A. John, age 36, now naturalized, was a day laborer at a transfer company. Julia was 29, born in Germany (Poland).
On 5 Jan 1920, the family owned 1139 N 7th, Cd'A (mortgaged). John, 45, was a millwright in a lumber mill. Julia, 38, was now naturalized. Rita was 20 months old, born in Washington.
On 10 Apr 1930, the family owned owned 916 Front Ave, val $3000. John, 55, was a millwright. Julia was 48. Rita was 11. Byron WEED lived with his family at 1105 Mill St, Cd'A
In 1940, Byron and Rita WEED lived with son John (3), at 509 Davidson. He was a fireman in a lumber mill.
Rita's husband, Byron Alpheus WEED, born 3 Oct 1916 in Montana to Leonard B and Susie (SUTHERLAND) WEED, married #2 Hernrietta L---. Byron died 7 Apr 1987 in Walnut Creek CA.
John ANDERSON died 6 Nov 1952. Julia (WITOSCH) ANDERSON died 17 Apr 1963. They are buried together in St Thomas cemetery.

Harriet died age 19 on 26 Nov 1936; buried in St Thomas Cemetery. See death certificate She was born in St Maries on 15 Mar 1917 to Peter J and Mary (WALIGURA) BAUMGARTNER. sister of Elsie M'37, Mary (?'38?) BAUMGARTNER. Also had an older brother, Eugene Robert (1916-1927) who died at age 11, and is buried with Harriett. Mary (WALIGURA) died 22 Dec 1959.
Peter J BAUMGARTNER, born 4 Jul 1865 in Erie PA to German immigrants Peter and Christiana (FLATT) BAUMGARTNER, was a hotel keeper in St Maries when he married Mary F WALIGURA on 25 Nov 1914 at Spokane WA. John Peter BAUMGARTNER died 29 Sept 1954 at St Anthony ID.
In 1880, John Peter, 14, lived with his family in Erie county, Pennsylvania. For more members of this family, see Ancestral File.
In 1900, "Peat", 34, single, was a day laborer (and boarder with a bunch of sawmill workers) in Cora, Latah, Idaho.
In 1910, Peter, 44, single, was a lead and silver prospector, rooming in St Maries.
Mary F WALIGURA was born c 1886 in Iron Mtn MI to Paul and Johanna (MAGNITIS) WALIGURA, both immigrants from Hungary.
In 1920, the family owned and lived at 320 Hills Gulch Rd, St Maries, and comprised Peter 54 (car salesman), Mary 35, Eugene 4 ID, Harriett F 2y9m ID, and Elsie M 1y3m ID. --7 Feb 1920, College precinct ED 213, family #434 (last).

born 17 Jan 1916 at Cd'A to Thomas R and Helen (WENDLAND) GERDES. Lived (1938) at 817 Wallace Ave. Brother of Marguerite'25, Francis'27, Anna Marie'28, Maxine'31 and Dorothy'38 GERDES.
John did not graduate IHM, but attended at least St Thomas 1921 (age 5) until 1931 (8th grade, age 15). He married 17 Nov 1938 at St Thomas to Mildred Josephine ANSTINE. He served in the US Army in WW2. [Mildred, born 13 Aug 1919, subsequently married --- MOE, --- WAKEFIELD, --- DUKICH, and died 15 Feb 1992 at Spokane.]
John died 4 Dec 1998, and is buried in Riverview Heights cemetery, Kennewick.

born 6 Sept 1918 to Marvin Chancey and Mary Mae (WHOOLEY) HELMER. Brother of Grace('41) and Frances'37 HELMER. (Grace did not graduate IHM; the family moved to Spokane in 1937.)
The HELMER family lived at Ione WA in 1910, Spirit Lake ID in 1920, at 808 Wallace and 801 Indiana, Cd'A in 1930-35, then Spokane (apartment at 1414 Riverside) by 1940. Marvin Sr was a telegraph operator, and died 1 May 1944 in Othello WA. Mary died in 1967.
Marvin C "Jr"married Gertrude CAMPBELL on 23 May 1942 at OLOL Cathedral, Spokane. The signature appears identical to the marriage record below. A Gertrude HELMER, born 1903, died in 1976 in Mt Vernon WA.
Marvin Curtis married Inez A BAHL on 18 July 1948 in Spokane, with his sister Frances and brother-in-law (Max SHINN) as witnesses.
Marvin Curtis died in January 1974 at Tacoma WA.

McDONNELL Dorothy

Born Dorothy Del FROST on 24 Feb 1918 at St Maries to Peter and Rosalie Agnes (MORIN) FROST. After Rosa died in 1921, Dorothy was adopted by James E & Josephine (MARLOWE) McDONNELL, a childless couple in Cd'A who owned a cold-storage company.
On 25 Jul 1936, Dorothy entered the novitiate of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM), at Marylhurst, Oregon. On 5 Feb 1937 she received her habit and the name Sister Mary Rose Estelle, SNJM. On 5 Aug 1938 she made temporary vows, and made final vows on 5 Aug 1943. In 1961, the SNJM's divided the Oregon Province, and Dorothy joined the newly-formed Washington Province in Spokane.

Sister Dorothy died 29 Nov 1976, and was buried 2 Dec 1976 in Holy Cross cemetery, Spokane.

In 1930, Dorothy,12, and her brother, Lawrence '33 FROST, 14, lived at 1401 Front Ave, Cd'A, with her adoptive parents, James J (48 WI) and Josephine (47 WI) McDONNELL, married 25 years. James was a State Highway Patrolman, and owned the house (value $3500) and a radio, and was not a military veteran.

Twin of Elizabeth'36 McFARLAND, born 8 July 1918 Cd'A to William B and Ferne (BERRY) McFARLAND. Brother of Bill'39 McFARLAND. Nephew of Joseph '24 McFARLAND (and more family information).

Robert B married Ruth SIMMELINK at St Thomas on 18 Sep 1948, and is the father of Robert'67, Mary'68 and Jane'70 McFARLAND. Uncle of James'57, Kathleen'62, Bill'65, Thomas'68, John'70 & James ('73) McFARLAND. Robert died 11 Oct 2006.

William B (Jan 1887 - 1971) married 22 Aug 1917 to Ferne BERRY (1894 - 1988) at Cd'A. They are both buried in St Thomas cemetery.

Born 30 Nov 1916 in Colorado to Frank J (1886 - 1962) and Matilda M (KUNSTELL, 1880-1951) PRUSS (both from Yugoslavia, or Austria).
In 1920, the family lived in Pitkin, Colorado, and included an older sister, Matilda (born c 1911).
By 1930, they are in Hayden Lake, without Matilda (sister). Matilda (b Sep 1911, Aspen CO) married on 8 Sep 1937 at St Thomas to Gerald A THOMAS.
In 1940, the family owns a home on Maple Lane in Hayden. Frank Jr is 23, and a bookeeper. In 1945, he was a clerk, living in Spokane. In 1942-43 through 1956, he lived at N206 Washington, and worked as a laborer. By 1958, he lived in an apartment at W1522 Riverside.
The parents are buried in St Thomas. Frank died 20 Jan 2009, and is buried in Fiero NM.

Born 22 July 1917 in Idaho to John Eberhardt (1876-1945) & Margaret (BRACKENDORF) SCHAEFER. Lived (1920~1940) at Priest River with parents. Married (as third wife) Andre H GUIBERSON (1902 IA - 1976 WA), lived Seattle area.
John E was born 14 Oct 1876 in Marathon county, Wisconsin, to Jacob & Josefina SCHAEFER, from Germany. They had at least seven children, in NY (1), PA (1) and 1869- WI (5) He was a logging superintendent for Dalkena Lumber in Priest River. He died 12 Oct 1945 at Priest River.

Born 29 Mar 1919 or (1918?) at Grand Forks, BC Canada to Arthur Sven & Olive (LUDINGTON) SWANSON, both of Michigan. Began 7th grade at IHM at age 10½, in September 1929. Lived Walkerville MT (1920), 1219 7th, Cd'A (1929). Annabelle, of Kootenai county, married on 20 May 1938 at Newport WA to James Milton WHITNEY, miner of Silver Bow MT. James was born 22 Jun 1918 in Cd'A. In 1940, he was a gold miner in Marysville CA, with Annabelle and son James, 1. He died 24 May 1995, near Apache Junction AZ.

(1956) Annabelle GEIST married Selba RUSSELL on 20 Jul 1956 in Kootenai County, Idaho.

Arthur Sven SWANSON was born 14 March 1894 in Ironwood MI. He lived in Canada 1900-1909 and 1915-1916, presumably mining. In 1917, he lived in Danville, Washington, and was a miner with Canada Copper Corp in Greenwood BC. In July 1920, he moved his family from Butte MT to Portovelo, Ecuador, to work as a miner. In 1935, he was mining in rural Mexico. In 1940, he was a mining superintendent in Washington, Nevada county, California, with wife Olive and son Stephen, 10. In 1942, he was mining in Happy Camp CA, living with Olive in Dunsmuir CA. He died 20 Apr 1946 in Bolivia.

Born 15 Nov 1917 to John Peter & Marion M (WALSH) ZILKA, who married 13 Feb 1917 in Newport WA.
In 1920 & 1930, John owned a garage in Cd'A, lived at 416 Foster Ave. He was born 6 Oct 1885 in WI to Joseph and Josephine (KURTZ) ZILKA, (of Spokane, 1910-1925). He had a brother, Lewis, who died "when his automobile turned turtle in the soft sand" near Pendleton OR on 18 July 1922. Another brother, Henry, was a bond broker in Portland. John died 10 Oct 1958 at Clarkston WA.
Marion was born 31 July 1892 in Belfast, emigrated from Glasgow to NYC on 15 May 1910, filed for Naturalization on 20 July 1916 Spokane (telephone operator, age 23), and died 25 March 1958 in Portland Oregon.

Theo married 11 Jan 1939 at St Thomas to Kenneth O ANDERSON, born Minnesota. In 1940, they owned and lived at 1048 9th, Clarkston, where Ken worked for WWP.
