OBITUARY: Barbara A Walker, 75, died peacefully 6 June 2005, at home in Wasilla with family by her side after a long decline brought on by Alzheimer's disease. She was born 16 Sept 1929 in Sheridan WY, to Leon and Francie LeBlanc. During her life, she made Colorado, Alaska, Oregon, Washington and Utah home. She married Marvin Walker on 14 Feb 1951. She mothered his daughter, JoAnn (Walker) Slade, and was a proud grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of 27. She had lived in Alaska since the late 1990s.
Barbara completed nurse's training and worked in the health care field for more than 30 years. In addition to her work in hospitals and doctors' offices, Barbara voluntarily provided care to elderly neighbors and helped families with small children. Her kindness and constant smile brought joy and comfort to many. History was one of Barbara's interests, and she was a historian for St. Patrick's Church in Woodland WA, and for her family. She was an accomplished seamstress, frequent traveler, avid reader and a published poet. However, the thing most people will remember is her wit and wonderful laugh.
Her husband, stepdaughter and infant son, Brent Walker, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sisters, Cherie LeBlanc-Shue of Wasilla, Mycki Fulda-Cheek of Washington and Greta Lee of Oregon; brothers, R G and Leon LeBlanc of Washington and R E LeBlanc of Colorado, and their families; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burial was June 10 beside her husband in Vernal, Utah. Donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, or Hospice of Mat-Su. Arrangements are with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory. —Anchorage Daily News - Sunday, 26 June 2005
