FAMILY HISTORY

Newton WAKEFIELD, 1903 WA -1980 ID (see obituary), was an engineer, and son of attorney (and John's namesake) William John Charles WAKEFIELD (b 4 Sep 1862 VT) and Louise AMMANN, (b Mar 1873 IL). The WAKEFIELD line traces back to Jonathan WAKEFIELD in 1705 Wells, Maine. WJCW was the son of Luther & Lorinda (PLACE) WAKEFIELD, married 27 Jul 1858 . Lorinda traces back to Enoch PLACE in 1631 England.

In 1870, WJCW, age 8, lived with his parents (Luther & Lorinda WAKEFIELD) in Hinesburg VT. --Chittenden County, Hinesburg, page 6.

In Mar 1873, Louise AMMANN was born to Arnold & Caroline (SCHWAB) AMMANN. Arnold and Caroline married 30 Jun 1870 in St Louis MO. Arnold was born 6 Apr 1845 in Wittenwil, Thurgau, Switzerland to Johann Heinrich AMMANN and Anna Magdalena (---).

on 10 Jun 1896, William JC WAKEFIELD married Louise AMMANN. B Mar 1873 IL, parents b Switzerland and Germany.

In 1900, WJCW and Louise, married 4 years, lived at 2328 W First Ave, Spokane. This remained their address through at least the 1930 census See GoogleMaps Streetview. Louise's mother, Caroline AMMANN, b Aug 1852 GER, widow, lived in Spokane with son Charles E, b Feb 1881 IL (SWI, GER), view census. Helen WAKEFIELD was born 1 Mar 1901 at Spokane to WJCW & Louise. Newton WAKEFIELD was born (unnamed) on 17 May 1903, and baptized Episcopalian.

In 1930, Newton, 26, aviation engineer, was single and living at home. view census transcript.

On 4 Jul 1931, William JC WAKEFIELD died in Spokane.

In WW2, Newton WAKEFIELD was a civil engineer, Navy and airline pilot, and landed the first plane at NAS Whidbey Island, on 5 Aug 1942. He later became Operations Officer there.

Newton married 11 May 1942 at St Thomas, Cd'A to Mary Dorothy BRESNAN (10 Jun 1906- 6 Jun 1973; daughter of Hugh and Susan (CLARK) BRESNAN). After 1973, he married [2] widow Vera I (CRISSEY) [McDONALD]. Newton died in March 1980. Vera then married Justin '28 BRODERICK in 1981. She died in 1997.

Vera I (CRISSEY)[KILMER] [MacDONALD] [WAKEFIELD] BRODERICK, 1903 - 1997

Vera was born 18 Aug 1903 in Spirit Lake, Minnesota (actually, in Iowa, per 1905 MN census), and died Saturday, 19 Apr 1997. She moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1935 and owned a Merle Norman Studio in Spokane for 50 years. She was a member of the Spokane Figure Skating Club. Mrs BRODERICK was preceded in death by three-or-more husbands, Donald L MacDONALD (1902 CO -1973; son of Allan J (physician) & Mary MacDONALD; married to Vera on 20 Apr 1940 at St Thomas),
Newton WAKEFIELD, (1903-1980) and Justin "Jud" '28 BRODERICK (1910-1995). She was listed as KILMER in the 1940 marriage. Survivors include a daughter, Donna RASMUSSEN of Seattle; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
